Providing support through rugby
Dubai Exiles RFC are proud of their charity work and the club as a long-standing community entity is committed to continue supporting worthy causes both locally and abroad. We believe rugby is a perfect vehicle to ‘do good deeds’ and it is an important aspect of our club ethos.
Our Veteran’s section is very active in this aspect of Exiles life especially with their charitable works in South East Asia. Our Over 35’s are regular participants in the Angkor 7s Rugby Tournament in Cambodia and while their on-field results are always admirable it is their contribution to the local communities that earns them more praise.

Our annual Cambodia tour has become something of an institution in recent years. The 2009 tour was our sixth and most successful to date in which we were able to continue raising the bar in terms of the support and sponsorship donated. Through the continued generosity of our sponsors and supporters we were able to donate over US,000 to various causes which help in the development and recreation of underprivileged children. The organizations we assist are carefully chosen to ensure that the funding gets used for the intended purposes.
The recipients of our funding include The Cambodian Federation of Rugby, who we have been supporting since 2004, The Sunrise Children’s Village who we have been helping for the last three years, and the Indochina Starfish Foundation, with whom we have taken on a three year sponsorship commitment. Support for a fourth organization named M’Lop Tapang was added in 2009. . Please visit their respective websites for more information.

We are currently preparing for our 7th annual tour to Cambodia from 3 - 8 November 2010 and as ever we are hoping that we can continue to provide support to these worthwhile causes, for which the Dubai Exiles have become famed. Of course this can only happen with the support and sponsorship of the great many organizations in Dubai and the U.A.E. who are renowned for their charitable donations and we trust you may wish to be included in the year’s number. Our target this year is to again raise our sponsorship to the organizations we support to a total of US $ 25,000. We are currently planning a couple of fundraising events including a “Luxury Boat Trip” on Friday 24 September and an “Evening With Geraldine Cox” (founder of the Sunrise Children’s Villages) on Thursday 21st October 2010 – more details to follow on these two events.
Please give generously to these worthy causes and we will endeavor to spread the goodwill and support in these tougher economic times. Please note that cheques should be made payable to “Dubai Exiles Rugby Football Club” and you may contact Mr. Unni Ramath (04-3213882 or 050-5971025) for delivery/collection.
Please contact Jim Darbyshire (050-6214709 jimdar1339@gmail.com or Tim Lacey 050-5512329 (c_sgroup@emirates.net.ae) should you have any enquiries or to make any donation.

The Indochina Foundation provides disadvantaged children and youth in Cambodia the opportunity to participate in organized sports.

With a view to the further development of rugby in Asia, the Exiles tourists have also donated playing kit to the Cambodia Rugby Union. The Dubai Exiles RFC Vets Team are at present busy organising their 2010 visit to the region in November.

Not to be outdone, the Dubai Exiles Men’s Team, travelled to the Phuket International Tens Rugby Tournament and while there sponsored two children on full educational scholarships thanks in no small part to the generous contribution made by team sponsor Ceramic City in association with Exiles Club Captain Mike Riley. The children sponsored are orphans who lost their parents in the 2004 Tsunami and are from the areas of Phuket and Khao Lak.
