It’ll be a short, but anxious, wait for the young ladies of the Dubai Exiles who took part in both UAE Rugby trials on the Thursdays of 17th and 24th June at The Sevens Stadium. UAE Head Coach Apollo Perelini, and his coaching team, will soon be announcing the training squad for the Asia Rugby Under 18 Girls’ Sevens Championship in Uzbekistan this September.
The young ladies of the Dubai Exiles, Tara Aksoy, Lara Botha, Nicole Brits, Lily Christiansen, Heather McNaughtan, Jodie Qursha, Femke Soens, Megan Theocharis, and Phoebe Shaw, all applied themselves superbly in both trials, displaying not only their skills but also their understanding of the game and unrelenting work ethic.

The Asia Under 18 Girls Sevens Rugby Championship is a prestigious competition that was first won by the Hong Kong U18 Girls 7s team in its inaugural year in 2016 in Dubai. That year the final was played in a pulsating atmosphere before a large crowd on Pitch 2 at the world-famous Emirates Dubai Sevens Stadium.
Hong Kong emerged victorious over a determined Kazakhstan side, in an exciting and hard fought match. Hong Kong reaching the final whistle with a 12-5 winning scoreline. The young Hong Kong girls side held their nerve, defended aggressively and took their opportunities when they presented themselves.
In some of the earlier matches India defeated Sri Lanka 15-7 to take 3rd place , and the UAE’s all-Emirati Girls Team defeated Uzbekistan 29-0 to take 5th Spot.
