Preparations began in earnest yesterday evening at The Sevens Stadium as the UAE Under 18 Girls‘ rugby squad began to get ready for the upcoming Asia Rugby Under 18 Girls Sevens competition being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, this September.
The first round of trial games was held at The Sevens and overseen by UAE National Coach, Apollo Perelini, on Thursday evening. 48 girls from various rugby clubs across the UAE made the trip to the world famous Dubai Sevens Stadium and showed off their skills in 6 matches with teams made up of girls randomly selected from the different clubs.
Dubai Exiles Rugby Club was represented by Tara Aksoy, Lara Botha, Nicole Brits, Lily Christiansen, Heather McNaughtan, Charlotte McNaughton, Jodie Qursha, Femke Soens, and Megan Theocharis.
The young ladies of Dubai Exiles RFC acquitted themselves superbly throughout the evening and will be heading back up to The Sevens next Thursday evening for the final set of ‘trial seven-a-side’ rugby matches.
