The UAE‘s Asia Rugby Championship win over the Republic of Korea at The Sevens Stadium, in June, has lifted the profile of Emirates rugby throughout the rugby playing world.
In that game the UAE turned a half-time deficit of 13 – 27 into a 36 – 32 win over a Korean side that was 30 places higher in the World Rugby rankings.
The win, and the manner of it, raised more than a few eyebrows – suddenly international teams were keen to come to the UAE, experience playing international rugby here and experience the country.
For the very first time there will be an Autumn International Series here in the UAE.
Current Rugby Africa Champions Zimbabwe will be the first to visit The Sevens Stadium in November. Kicking off against the UAE at 7:30 pm on Tuesday November 5th.
Zimbabwe were impressive on their route to securing the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup, defeating Namibia by 32 points to 10 in the semi-final and dominating Algeria in the final to take the title 29 points to 3.
On Saturday 16th November it will be the turn of Germany to run out at The Sevens Stadium against the home nation. Kicking off at 3:30 pm.
Germany finished in 6th place in this years Rugby Europe Championship but impressively held their own against a much fancied Georgia side, The Lelos, at the Paul Greifzu Stadium in Dessau, before eventually losing out by 28 points to 17.
Zimbabwe are currently ranked 28th in the world and Germany 31st. Both matches hold full ‘test’ status and will see the UAE battling hard to break into the top 50 of World Rugby‘s rankings.
