Huge Congratulations to Dubai Exiles RFC‘s Matt Mills who has been given the honour of captaining the UAE RUGBY 7s team that heads to the Phuket Sevens later this month for the Asia Rugby Sevens Men’s Trophy at the Surakul Stadium.
Matt, a PE Teacher at Dubai English Speaking College, has just completed his 6th season in a Dubai Exiles playing shirt.
Not only does Matt plough his energy into the Dubai Exiles Premiership matches but he also gives up his time and energy to coach the Dubai Exiles Under 10s on a Thursday evening and a Saturday morning at The Sevens Stadium.
He is no stranger to the UAE rugby shirt. He has previously represented his adopted home in both 7s and 15s. He played an instrumental part in the UAE achieving promotion to Division 1 of the Asia Rugby Championship in May 2019.
Matt has a wealth of experience in 7s rugby and has previously won the Emirates Dubai 7s with the Dubai Exiles in 2017 and more recently in December 2021.
Englishman Matt will be one of five Dubai Exiles heading to Phuket next week. He’s joined by teenagers Alfie Wilson, Marcus Kruger and Hannes Kruger as well as UAE’s Assistant Coach, and Dubai Exiles Under 16s coach, DuRandt Gerber.
UAE National Coach, Apollo Perelini, appointed Matt the captain for the upcoming tournament this morning while preparing the squad at The Sevens Stadium.
Congratulations Matt – everybody at the club is incredibly proud of you!
Good luck to everyone representing UAE RUGBY in Thailand next weekend!
